The struggling Western Conference team Phoenix Suns is reportedly interested in acquiring the services of the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash to fill the club's vacant head coaching post.

According to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN, Suns owner Robert Sarver has had Nash high on his list of potential targets to take over the team. However, the eight-time All-Star is not yet ready to take a full-time coaching job or even an assistant coach position at this point in time.

Jeff Hornacek was fired by the team management on Sunday after two and a half seasons of being the head coach of the team.  Assistant coach Earl Watson will serve as the interim coach.

Nash is currently a part-time consultant for Golden State Warriors. He has also served as the general manager of the Canadian men's national basketball team since 2012.

Earlier this month, Sarver and Nash ventured into a partnership to purchase Spanish Segunda Division soccer club RCD Mallorca for about $21 million. Nash serves as a board member at RCD, with input on all soccer decisions.

Nash, who played with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers during his 18-year career, was a Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor recipient. He has career averages of 14.3 points and 8.5 assists per game. He was an All-Star selection six times with the Suns and reached the playoffs seven times.
