The 2016 NBA All-Star Game was the most-viewed televised program on cable TV last Sunday night and attracted a peak audience of 8.7 million.

In a sold-out venue, the gathering of the most popular basketball players of the league let the fans witness the highest scoring All-Star Game of all time with both the team managing to set multiple offensive All-Star Game records.

The 369 combined points of the two sides broke the old record of 321 points scored in last year's All-Star Game. The 53 points of the Western selections in the third quarter, 104 points in the second half and 196 points in the game were all records for points by a team in a quarter, half and game.

The winning team connected 31 treys out of the 80 total attempts from beyond the arc line, setting a new record for most three-pointers made and attempted and field goals with 82 made and 149 attempts.

Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who scored 31 points with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, won the Most Valuable Player of the Game award for the second consecutive season, becoming the first NBA player to do so in the history of the glamorous basketball event.

"Any time you can be able to be in the history books, it always means something to me," Westbrook said. "I'm just thankful to be able to play the game of basketball and be in a game like this is something I never take for granted."
