The unofficial remake of the hit PlayStation game 'Metal Gear Solid' has been cancelled. Indie game designer Airam Hernandez recently announced that he is ditching the project to remake 'Metal Gear Solid' for newer generation consoles.

Hernandez announced the news via his official Facebook account. The group working on the project announced that they are scrapping the remake for good for reasons beyond their control. Hernandez and his team of developers have been toiling on the project for quite some time already. The group even released a handful of screenshots and teaser videos in the past.

In a statement, the developers said, "We have an important announcement to make today. We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control."

The main reason why the project was cancelled is still unclear. There are speculations that Konami may have stepped in and issued a cease and desist order which ultimately forced the team to cancel the project.

It is important to note that Konami still owns the rights for 'Metal Gear Solid.'

Most gamers and fans are not entirely surprised that Konami may have a hand into the recent cancellation of the 'Metal Gear Solid' remake. Based on the company's past actions, it is highly unlikely that Konami would want to work with independent game developers on the remake of one of most popular video game franchise in history.

Hernandez previously mentioned that they are working on to acquire permission from Konami to work on the project. Some gamers were even angered when Hernandez decided to reveal the project on the public domain.

The main objective of the Shadow Moses Project was to completely rebuild the original 'Metal Gear Solid' game using the latest Epic game engine.
