Faulty Drivers Could Permanently Damage Nvidia Video Cards: Reports

Reports coming from several gaming websites claim that the latest Nvidia graphics card drivers have the tendency to damage the hardware. The culprit is the GeForce driver version 364.47. Nvidia has already pulled down the driver installer on its website.

Following the release of the driver, several gamers reported that they were experiencing freeze screen and visual glitches after they installed it. In the worst case scenario, the faulty driver can even cause permanent and irreparable damage to the video card.

While most of these video cards are mainly used for gaming, it may have serious repercussions since some of these cards cost upwards of a thousand dollars. Nvidia is yet to uncover the official cause of the glitch. But the company has said that it is working to fix the issue as soon as possible.

Initial investigation reveal that the glitch only occurs when users install the faulty drivers using the express installation mode. Some gamers have suggested that the problem is occurring because of a software conflict between the old and the newly installed driver.

The drivers were released by Nvidia in conjunction with the recently released Tom Clancy video game The Division. The faulty driver was packaged into the game. Nvidia advised poeple who downloaded The Division installer to rollback their video card drivers/

The driver was released for PC gamers who want to play The Division in 4K resolution and enable Nvidia-specific graphical effects, according to Stuff.

In a statement sent to Engadget, Nvidia claims that it is yet to receive major complaints regarding burnt video cards as media reports suggest. The most grievous issue the company says it has received are black out or corrupted screens. Nvidia added that the drivers have no line or code that could fry the video card hardware.
