Basketball News: Former Shanghai Sharks Reinforcement Bernard James to Play for Galatasaray

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Bernard James could be heading to Turkey to play for Galatasaray.

Former Chinese Basketball Association reinforcement Bernard James is reportedly on the radar of the Turkish professional basketball team Galatasaray S.K. Odeabank and is set to sign a deal with the club.

James, who played for the Shanghai Sharks, averaged 14.1 points, 10.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game. He played a total of 36 games in the CBA and led Shanghai to finish tenth and eleventh place with 18 wins and 20 losses record.

The 31-year-old American played college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles from 2010 to 2012 before being drafted as the 33rd overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2012 NBA Draft. He was later traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that included the 24th overall pick Jared Cunningham from the Oregon State and the 34th overall pick Jae Crowder, who now plays for the Boston Celtics.

The listed 6-foot-10 center appeared in a total of 16 games with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2014-15 season of the NBA, where he averaged 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 9.9 minutes of playing time. During his stint with the 2011 NBA champions ball squad; he shot 44.4 percent from the field and has 87.0 percent accuracy from the foul line.

James also played for the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League before joining the Shanghai Sharks for the 2014-15 CBA season.

He was named Atlantic Coast Conference All-Defensive team member in 2012 and a recipient of the United States Basketball Writers Association Most Courageous Award in the same year.

Galatasaray is an Istanbul-based basketball club that competes in the Turkish Basketball Super League and Eurocup. The team has already won 5 Turkish Championships, 3 Turkish Cup and 2 Turkish President's Cup.  Galatasaray is currently under the watch of head coach Ergin Ataman.
