Guangzhou was forced into a disappointing goalless draw with South Korea's Pohang Steelers during their group stage opener also at their home field on Feb. 24th.

Afterward, the defending Asian champions dropped a crucial 1-2 decision to Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium in Australia on March 2nd to stay winless in the tournament they won last year and in 2013, as reported by Goal.

Even with powerhouse Colombian goal-scoring machine Jackson Martinez already on their side, World Cup-winning head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari were unable to net any goals in the whole match with their lone point coming from an own goal by Sydney defender Aaron Calver at the 25th minute.

The Sky Blues opened the scoring at the 18th via a header tennis goal by winger Robert Stambolziev before the own goal tied the match.

The game seemed headed to a draw until Serbian midfielder Miloš Dimitrijević netted the winner for the hosts one minute before the full time whistle blew to bury the Southern China Tigers at the bottom of the Group H standings with only a single point under its name.

Meanwhile, Urawa dropped their March 2nd ACL assignment against Pohang, 0-1, at the Pohang Steel Yard in Pohang, South Korea to split their first two games of the group stage, as per Fox Sports.

The Red Diamonds won their opener over Sydney, 2-0, and will try to bounce back in this match against the Southern Tigers.

The predicted result is a 3-0 romp for Guangzhou Evergrande as Martinez finally finds his form in continental competitions.
