American online streaming service Hulu recently launched a new Virtual Reality app for Samsung's Gear VR headset, which is currently available in Gear VR Oculus store.

It will include 30 non-exclusive and 360-degree videos for shows like Showtime, National Geographic and Discovery, according to Engadget.

Aside from watching their favorite shows, Hulu offers 3D virtual movies that are available in the app and also works without the need to pay for a subscription.

The app's purpose is to provide a new experience in watching their users' favorite shows from a plain 2D view into a virtual reality scene. It can offer a variety of customizable environment whether it's in a living room or at the beach.

On the other hand, Hulu's new Virtual Reality app has an original short film titled "The Big One" that tells a story about a meteor shower and the world's end. It was made possible through the partnership of Lionsgate and Freddie Wong , who starred in RocketJump.

Hulu's Head of Experience, Ben Smith said, "We are at the very beginning of VR and like everyone involved in VR technology and content, we at Hulu, have a lot of learn about what makes for a great VR experience in the eyes of the viewer." 

As of the moment, Hulu's Virtual Reality app only works on Samsung smartphones such as Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/Edge+, and Galaxy Note 5.

Meanwhile, the company also revealed that they are currently working on other apps for different platforms to widen their VR market. 

The company also announced that there will be more short films and environment available for new gadgets in the future and it will be released on a "regular basis."
