First Anniversary Of Fatal High Speed Train Crash

Tourists visiting a wide rose garden in south China were able to witness how a 19-year-old girl died while taking a selfie.

The girl, along with some of her classmates, visited the 33 acre-wide rose gardens in Liantang village at Guangdong province on Saturday. She reportedly tried to take a selfie, standing close to the train tracks when an incoming train hit her.

The girl tried to stand as close as possible to the tracks so that she could include the nearby flowers in her photo as background. Local witnesses said that although bystanders near her were already warning her that she was too close to the tracks, she did not step back.

The train, for its part, whistled to alert the girl and the people nearby of its passing. The girl, however, reportedly wanted to include the train in her ‘perfect selfie,’ but was unfortunately hit and was sent flying.

Tourists were able to take photos of the incident before and after it happened. The girl was seen standing on her back against the train before the accident but was found on the ground beside the train after it claimed her life.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at about 1:34 p.m., only to find the girl dead on the scene. She reportedly died, having suffered from several severe head injuries. Because of this, local authorities might find a reason to prohibit visitors from approaching the scenic train tracks, reports Metro.

This is not the first train-related incident that happened on the same tracks, reports Daily Mail. Locals say that there are warning signs along the area, but as there are no barriers that prohibit entry or passage through the tracks, it could be that people do not heed the warnings, and just go through and use the path as a shortcut.
