A bus company in China has thought of an ingenious way to prevent passengers from missing their destinations. Drivers of a bus company in Zhengzhou now offer wake-up call services to sleepy passengers who often miss their stops.

In China's Henan Province, bus drivers are experimenting with a new service aimed at sleepy passengers. The service was prompted by a small incident that happened to a passenger last month; a young man fell asleep and missed his bus stop, and ultimately came in late on his first day at work. The young man feeling regretful said that the incident could have been avoided if someone has notified him.

As a result, bus drivers are now trying out the wake-up call service on selected routes. They would get the names of those who would want to be notified and their destinations. The driver will then inform them if they reached their destination. The new wake-up service is now being tested on two routes.

A similar service is being offered to train passengers in India. Railways have launched a new service that will give passengers a wake-up call on their mobile phones 30 minutes prior to their scheduled arrival or 30 minutes before they actually reach the destination (real time).

This comes in handy especially as the weather moves to summer; most passengers will definitely feel sleepy as it gets more comfortable and warmer. There were many positive feedbacks when it was rolled out initially but there were some, who expressed safety concerns over the wake-up call. Some people cited that drivers may not fully concentrate on driving if they have other else on mind.

However, Yang Chaoqun, an employee at the bus company assured the passengers that drivers are only allowed to give notices once the bus has fully come to a stop. The bus company is still waiting for the initial test results and will decide later on if the service should be offered on other routes.
