Microsoft Launches Outlook Support for Android Wear

The Microsoft Outlook update for Android smartwatch is being rolled out through Google Play Store in a gradual manner.

(Photo : Reuters) Microsoft has sold what was left of Nokia and apparently bid goodbye to its mobile manufacturing ambitions.

Microsoft has rolled out an update for Outlook support for Android, giving users of Android Wear-powered watches to do new things.

The new Outnlook version 2.1.0 will include a new Wear app component that installs on the watch and allows the users to check their unread emails and send template replies or dictate them. This goes even further than the simple notification interaction that was accessible before, as it lets the users launch Outlook the watch even if they do not have an unread notification on their phone.

“This week, we’re bringing the best of Outlook to Android Wear. Stop reaching out for your phone, everything is now happening on your watch. Check your Outlook notifications, read your new emails and reply with pre-set messages or voice dictation right from your wrist. It’s never been that easy to manage your inbox,” said Microsoft in its official announcement.

With Outlook for Android Wear, users can simply look at their wrist if an email hits their inbox, which is a major perk if they want to leave their phone in their pocket or elsewhere while on the go.

The update is being rolled out through Google Play Store in a gradual manner so chances are that people with Android-wear watches might not have received the update yet but it would not be long before they see it so keep checking at regular intervals.

Outlook is not the first venture of Microsoft with Android Wear. Previously, the company has released a “prototype” custom keyboard for Android Wear, allowing users to write messages by drawing letters on the screen. However, it did not succeed and never received any update for nearly two years now.
