World No. 1 Serena Williams won her doubles matchup along with sister Venus to enter the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open women's doubles in Flushing Meadows New York on Sunday.

The match against the duo of Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro took only 47 minutes as the hard-hitting Williams sisters converted 20 winners and six service aces to send the Spaniards home, 6-1, 6-0.

The unseeded tandem of Serena and Venus will face the fourth seeded Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the quarters.

The Williams sisters have accumulated 13 Grand Slam titles. Their last crown was at Wimbledon in 2012 where they defeated Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka who are the defending champions of the tournament.

Unfortunately, the Czech pair has parted ways and has different partners. Hradecka along with new partner Michaella Krajicek have been eliminated earlier by the pair of Zarina Diyas of Kazkhastan and China's Xu Yifan.

Hlavackova on the other hand is now partnered with another Chinese woman, Zheng Jie and will be playing Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska in the third round.

The World No. 1 team of Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani was upset by the Australian duo of Jarmila Gajdosova and Ajla Tomljanovic in the second round.

Serena and Venus have an outside chance of winning the title. If they win their next match against the Makarova-Vesnina tandem, they could possibly end up with a Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei matchup in the semis and maybe even a Cara Black-Sania Mirza in the finals.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion Serena is up against Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the fourth round of singles play on target for her third consecutive tournament title.

If all things fall into place, Serena will be the first player after Martina Navratilova to win both the singles and doubles competition in 1986.
