With the goal of increasing the number of recruits in its ranks, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has released a new rap recruitment video specifically targeted at China's youth.

The rap video depicts impressive scenes of PLA officers in action as the rap song with aggressive lyrics plays in the background.

The video relies on its passionate lyrics to stroke patriotic fervor among China's young people. The video has lyrics such as "There are always missions in soldiers' minds, enemies in their eyes, responsibilities on their shoulders, and passions in their hearts. There could be a war at any time. Are you ready for that?"

The three-minute video also displays China's most modern weaponry and aircrafts including the J-11 fighter jet, the Liaoning aircraft carrier, the Type-99A tank, and the DF-11 ballistic missile.

The PLA has released many promotional videos to attract more recruits into the military in the past. However, the videos were never specifically focused on China's young population. The videos were generally backed by orchestrated music and were low on action scenes.

Many agree the PLA's latest promotional video will greatly help its recruitment campaign. Although the PLA never announces the number of new recruits that it has, there have been reports that the Chinese army has been struggling to increase their recruitment numbers.

Experts believe that increasing lure of modern white collar jobs is to be blamed for the PLA's poor recruitment. According to the official newspaper of PLA, the average starting salary in the Chinese military is $450 a month, which is far less than urban employee's salary of nearly $700.

Some experts also blame China's one-child policy, which was abolished last year, for PLA's declining recruitment.

However, the PLA still continues to be the largest military force in the world. It has around 2,285,000 military personals in its army, which is approximately 0.18 percent of the country's population.
