Although Disney has been entertaining the idea of a sequel to the 2014 animated hit "Big Hero 6," it appears that plans might be derailed due to another plan to launch a titular TV series on Disney Channel in 2017.

So if a "Big Hero 6" series is making its way to TV, what will happen to the movie sequel?

According to reports, there is a possibility that "Big Hero 7" will take a major time jump to avoid overlapping with the timeline in the proposed Disney series.

The "Big Hero 6" series will reportedly be helmed by "Kim Possible" creators Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley. Being a Marvel story, it is possible that more superhero characters will be added. The storyline is said to follow the events of the movie, perhaps exploring the lives of Hiro and his friends as university students by day and a crime-fighting squad at night, Slash Film reported.

President and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide Gary Marsh describes the series production as "world class" and full of fun and action.

Production for the "Big Hero 6" TV series is currently underway and is expected to hit the small screen in 2017.

That said, a time jump is only necessarily for "Big Hero 7" to avoid confusing the storylines. Rumors suggest that Hiro's brother Tadashi will return as villain Sunfire. In the comic books, Sunfire was briefly a member of X-Men, and could generate superheated plasma. Unlike Tadashi, Sunfire is rather arrogant and does not work well with other people.

As to the supposed "Big Hero 7," nothing has been confirmed regarding the sequel. Chris Williams, co-director of the first movie, stated that a sequel is going to happen only if they develop a great story to follow up the success of the first.

According to Cinema Blend, Disney still has a lot of other sequel projects lined up, with "Frozen 2" notably being a top priority. There were also some rumblings about a possible "Tron" sequel and the production for the upcoming "Star Wars" films.
