Rodrigo Duterte is Not Donald Trump

Previous reports may have insinuated that Rodrigo Roa Duterte, mayor of Davao City in the southern part of the Philippines, is just like Donald Trump, the Republic frontrunner in the United States presidential election. However, recent updates appeared to have concluded that they are indeed different.

Duterte is not Trump.

In its report, "Time" magazine pointed out that there are numerous reasons to prove that those who have been saying that the two politicians are of the same kind are wrong.

According to Peter Laviña, the campaign manager of the 71-year-old mayor who is still currently leading the Philippine presidential race by more than six million votes, the stringent measures implemented in his city are "to make sure our children are in their homes, sleeping and preparing for their next day of school."

The report noted that Rodrigo Duterte looks at drugs as the reason behind crimes, Donald Trump reportedly "equates criminals with immigrants."

It was emphasized as well that Digong, as how he is referred to in his hometown, even stated that he would "kill" his own children should they be involved with drugs.

When it comes to his type of campaign being likened to that of American politician's, Laviña said, "You have to understand the Philippines-style of election."

"Politicians need to communicate with their audience. Many sing and dance, some make jokes, some make funny faces, some dress outrageously," he further narrated about Rodrigo Duterte's similarity/difference with Donald Trump. "We don't expect the same attitude of our officials thereafter."

In his three decades of serving Davao City and its people, the Philippines' The Punisher has implemented laws that are deemed necessary to protect his constituents: a 10 p.m. curfew for minors who are not accompanied by adults, liquor ban which prohibits sale and consumption of alcohol after 1 a.m., complete smoking ban in public places, and 9 p.m. curfew on loud music and karaoke.

With these traits of the would-be 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the report concluded that the country "knows what it is getting," while with Donald Trump, "America is looking at the unknown."
