English Premier League club Manchester United is planning a £39.4 million swoop on Juventus striker Alvaro Morata in the summer as the Old Trafford giants look to improve their front lineup next season.

Caught Offside reported that the 23-year-old substitute goalscorer of the five straight Italian Serie A champions Juventus "is not exactly safe at the Old Lady" even as its star midfielder, Paul Pogba, mainly attracts the attention of the richest clubs in the world.

And Man United is said to be set to become one of the top suitors of the Spain international in the offseason as it prepares a £39.4 million bid for Morata.

Goalscoring had been the main weakness of the Red Devils this term as only youngsters Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were able to consistently provide the goals for the underachieving powerhouse squad.

United had only scored 46 goals in 37 games so far this season, the lowest among the top six contenders with Southampton coming in second from the bottom with 59 goals. It is just fortunate that Louis van Gaal's side is the best defensive team this season at only 34 goals allowed, which let them land at least a Europa League slot next season.

The stats are quite significant as their "underwhelming goal difference could be what prevents the Old Trafford outfit from qualifying for next season's Champions League, should they beat Bournemouth on Tuesday night", according to Football FanCast.

Morata had scored 11 goals in 46 appearances this season for Juve even as he mainly played as a substitute for 22-year-old Argentine striker Paulo Dybala. In two seasons with Le Zebre, he accumulated 26 goals in 92 games.

The Madrid native was acquired by Juve in the summer of 2014 from his hometown team Real Madrid for a transfer fee of £15 million. Real has a buyback option on Morata and there are rumors that Los Blancos are planning to activate it during the summer transfer window.

After that, they will then sell him for a profit to interested teams with United emerging as the top buyers.
