Badminton News: China Enters Finals of Uber Cup Unbeaten, Team India Finishes Tournament with Bronze

The Chinese women's team continued their winning run and maintained their unblemished record after crushing the Indian women's badminton squad in their semifinal showdown with a perfect 3-0 victory to move closer to their 14th Uber Cup title at the Kunshan Sports Center Court 1 in Jiangsu, China on Friday.

China's current world No. 3 Li Xuerui gave the defending champions the first point for the team after a thrilling match that lasted 64 minutes. The 25-year-old Chongqing native outlasted the elite Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, who is ranked No.8 in the world, with a 21-17, 12-21, 21-15.

Li, who is an Olympic gold medalist, improved her head-to-head matchup against Nehwal to eight straight victories since the 2012 Indonesia Open.

In the second semifinals match, the incumbent world No. 6 Wang Shixian defeated world No. 10 Pusarla V. Sindhu with a two straight sets 23-21, 21-13. The game lasted for 50 minutes. With the win, the 26-year-old Chinese badminton ace gave the host country a commanding 2-0 lead.

Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei sealed the victory for the 13-time titleholder China by beating the Indian pair Jwala Gutta and Nelakurihi Sikki Redd with a 21-6, 21-6 triumph that did not even last up to half an hour.

The Chinese women's badminton squad remains unbeaten. They have swept every opponent they have faced in the preliminary stages of the competition up to the semifinals. The team routed Malaysia, Spain and Denmark to finish on top of the Group A and ousted Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal round.

China will be facing the winner of the game between South Korea and Japan on Sunday in the finals.
