NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets Want To Acquire Goran Dragic Next Summer

Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic could become unrestricted free-agents next season

The Houston Rockets are reportedly planning to reacquire point guard Goran Dragic, who will be playing the final year of his contract with the Phoenix Suns.

Coming off a breakout year last season, Dragic is suddenly one of the most sought players on the trading front. The 28-year old Slovenian averaged 20.3 points, 5.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game to win his first individual trophy in the NBA - the Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Because of his status as a fast-rising player in the league, Dragic is unsurprisingly getting tremendous interest from several ball clubs, including elite franchises such as the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets.

The Pacers attempted to get Dragic via trade last July by shopping center Roy Hibbert, Chris Copeland and a first-round pick for the nifty playmaker. However, the trade talk never gained traction as the Suns really wanted to keep the core of Dragic and Eric Bledsoe for more years.

However, veteran NBA insider Marc Stein of ESPN indicated the Lakers and Rockets are looking to cash in for Bledsoe and Dragic next season, believing the Suns will have a hard time keeping the two explosive guards together in 2015.

"The Lakers, for example, are just one team league sources say would likely make a hard run at both of them, based on the premise that the Suns couldn't afford the cost of paying both at that point, theoretically making either Bledsoe or Dragic gettable," according to Stein.

"Sources say that Houston, furthermore, has Dragic on its list of potential targets next summer given how he's blossomed since leaving the Rockets for Phoenix in the free-agent summer of 2012."

Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2008 Draft, Dragic's right was traded to the Suns, where he spent his first two and half seasons. He was then traded to the Rockets in 2011 before re-joining the Suns again on a four-year, $30 million deal.

Dragic can exercise his opt out clause on the final year of his contract, making him unrestricted free-agent next summer.
