Tennis player Zheng Saisai of China was defeated by No. 22 seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia on Tuesday in straight sets. Meanwhile, both her compatriots Zhang Shuai and Wang Qiang were able to advance to the second round of the women's singles at the French Open in Paris.

Zheng, who is currently ranked as the world No. 85, committed six double faults and 16 unforced errors in the game, which lasted for one hour and 26 minutes. She succeeded in just one out of her four breaking points before losing 6-3, 6-1 to the 25th-ranked Cibulkova. With the loss, the Chinese tennis ace is almost sure to miss an Olympic ticket, according to Xinhua.

"I just couldn't pull myself together this morning," Zheng said."Facing an opponent like Cibulkova, you need a beyond excellent performance to beat her up," said Zheng.

"I think I've achieved some progress recently, especially in serving, but just failed to show it on the court," Zheng added."It taught me that I need to make a thorough selection over tournaments, even when I'm thirsty for Tour points in chasing a berth to the Rio Olympic Games."

Meanwhile, China's highest-ranked women's singles tennis players in the world successfully advanced to the second round of the prestigious tennis event in the Stade Roland Garros. Zhang Shuai and Wang Qiang victoriously dumped their respective opponents in the opening round of the competition.

The 24-year-old world No. 74 Wang Qiang advanced to the second round after smashing teenager Tessah Andrianjafitrimo of France with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win in a game that lasted for just 51 minutes. The 17-year-old Andrianjafitrimo was playing in her first match in the main draw of a grand slam, having entered the tourney as a wildcard.

While Zhang Shuai, who is currently ranked 69th in the WTA's world rankings, had no trouble in winning her opening round match against the unheralded Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan. The right-handed 27-year-old Tianjin native defeated the 31-year-old Kazakhstani player, who is currently ranking 492nd in the world, in two straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
