The National Republican Senatorial Committee took over Senator Pat Roberts' campaign in Kansas on Thursday, after Democrat Chad Taylor's terminated his campaign.

According to political experts, Taylor's withdrawal from the senate race threatened Roberts' hopes for re-election.

Experts said that Taylor's termination of his campaign created two problems for the Republicans. First, it increased chances for Independent Greg Orman and Libertarian Randall Batson. Second, Republicans see the competitors' increased chances as a way to jeopardize Roberts' odds for re-election.

To strengthen Roberts' chances, the committee appointed party strategist Chris LaCivita to oversee the Kansas senator's' re-election bid. He is expected to arrive in Kansas this weekend, reports said.

The Republicans' strategy would be to focus on making Orman look like a Democrat to gain favors from more Republican supporters, reports said.

Despite Roberts having a three-decade congressional career with a promising favor from the majority each election, the Republicans were troubled by Roberts' campaign even before Taylor dropped out of the race.

For one, they were concerned about Roberts' election spending and campaign decisions.

Roberts has not aired any television ad campaigns last month while Orman has been consistently airing campaign ads since July.

The committee believes it is crucial for the Republicans to secure Kansas because there are still many tight Senate races at present with only two months till the elections.

According to experts, the Republicans expected to defend only two seats: in Georgia and Kentucky. They have occupied Kansas' two seats in the senate since 1939.

However, recent development in Kansas got them to bring in more campaign efforts. They believe that winning the Kansas seat could determine their chances of gaining six seats to control a Senate majority in the November elections.

In a recent poll in Kansas, surveys showed that Roberts was leading Taylor. However, it is Orman who is currently leading the race.
