La Liga champions FC Barcelona are reportedly eyeing AS Roma's €38 million-rated midfielder Miralem Pjanic this summer, virtually fending off prospective rivals Juventus and Chelsea.

Caught Offside reported that the Catalonia giants are "planning on activating the €38m release clause" in the 26-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international's contract when the summer transfer window opens next month as he is said to be a perfect fit for head coach Luis Enrique's schemes at the Nou Camp.

Pjanic was expected to be in "high demand" after finishing an impressive term with I Giallorossi where he scored 10 goals in 33 appearances in the Italian top flight this season. His versatility at his position and effectiveness in both offense and defense is the main reason why several world-class clubs are after him at season's end.

The report noted that Barça's representatives have already reached out with Pjanic's agent, Michael Becker, to discuss a potential transfer to Spain next season.

Aside from Barcelona, Juventus, and Chelsea, other big-name clubs interested in the 5-foot-11 midfielder are Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, all of which are known to splurge cash to their priority targets every transfer window.

Forza Italian Football indicated that Enrique, who was Pjanic's first mentor in Roma when he was acquired by the capital city squad in the summer of 2011, is intending to reunite with the Bosnian in 2016-2017 to boost the Blaugrana's spine.

The 46-year-old Spanish manager is speculated to lose two of his key players in this coming transfer window, namely Dani Alves and Javier Mascherano, which could make Barça's midfield and backfield shaky.

Pjanic and Enrique worked together at the Stadio Olimpico during the former's first season in Rome in 2011-2012. However, after Roma failed to qualify for any European competition that term, the coach left the squad and joined Celta Vigo instead.

He then spent a season with Os Célticos before being hired by Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
