Despite Beijing infamously being known for its smog-filled skies, the Economist Intelligence Unit surprisingly says the city is the healthiest in China.

"At the current health status, Beijing is not even at the top five, but for all the other three ones, including awareness, finance, and resources, Beijing tops among all the 31 provinces," said Liu Qian, deputy director of China Service and representative of the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The reason for the top health ranking goes beynd air pollution problems. Beijing residents undergo more frequent medical checkups catching certain medical issues before they begin, for example.

On average, approximately 35 percent of citizens are subject to out-of-pocket healthcare while Beijing residents only have to co-pay about 25 percent.

Despite the recent report, Beijing residents still have reasons to be disgruntled when it comes to health issues.

Complaints, beyond the hazy pollution filled skies, are mainly aimed at the efficiency of large public hospitals.

Residents say that visiting a hospital can often be more of a hassle than the benefits it brings.

The particular doctors and overall healthcare are not the issues, most resident mainly complain of the difficulty to make an appointment and the availability of securing a hospital bed for checkup or treatment.

One residents states, "it is not convenient. We always have to queue and the prices are just too high."

Recently, the Chinese government is allowing different private and foreign healthcare providers to the industry, in an attempt to meet the healthcare demands of the residents.

Last year, China surpassed Japan as the second-largest healthcare system and providers, in the world.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, this ultimately funnels down into better healthcare opportunities for the residents, as more suitable companies will begin to come in and offer a multitude of different services.

"There isn't a single magical formula to all private players out there," Liu said. "The thing is, the healthcare market in China is growing very fast...the more meet to high-end ones, that would create better opportunities to play around with."
