Rumors are out that the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are both targeting soon-to-be free agent Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies this summer as the two storied NBA franchises look to fill their need at the point guard spot.

Yahoo Sports believe that the 28-year-old Conley is the best point guard in this summer's crop of free agents, above Sacramento's Rajon Rondo, Dallas' Deron Williams, and Charlotte's Jeremy Lin, and that the Knicks could definitely use him as a starter over Jose Calderon or Jerian Grant while the Lakers could pair him with fellow Ohio State alumni D'Angelo Russell in the starting lineup.

Recent speculations have emerged that Conley is "open to the idea of signing with the Knicks" to join Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis as his new Big Three partners this summer, but clarified that he is still "haven't committed to anything" with regards to his possible destination, according to Fansided.

As mentioned above, Conley would be a significant improvement as a starting point guard for New York. New head coach Jeff Hornacek is said to be looking for a "bridging" playmaker that is in the middle of veteran but slowly fading Calderon and of athletic but inexperienced Grant, and Conley seems to be the perfect option the coach is describing.

Aside from his playmaking and outside shooting skills, Conley is said to be one of the best in the league when it comes to taking care of the ball. This is highlighted by his career average of only 2.2 turnovers per 36 minutes, something that the error-prone Knicks badly needs to return into contention.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are allegedly interested in the 6-foot-1 Fayetteville, Arkansas native as they are looking for an elite level starter "who can facilitate, score, and play defense, and still has a few prime years left" at the position next season, as per Lakers Nation.

Conley has not expressed any interest in joining the Hollywood squad as much as he did with the Knicks. But if he is interested, then Mitch Kupchak and company will surely reach out to him soon to offer a deal.
