Facebook has launched two new features: 360 Photos and video comments. Both updates are now available for Android, iOS, desktop and VR users for the imaging tool were released in a week.

On Thursday, the company launched 360 Photos which will allow users and publishers share 360-degrees images to their friends and followers. What makes this new feature different from the usual image uploads is the compass icon placed in the wide-angle shot. A user can tilt and drag the image to navigate around it.

Tech-savvy users who own a VR may view the 360-degree image by hitting "View in VR" on its top left corner.

"We introduced photos on Facebook more than a decade ago, and they quickly became one of the main ways that people share their experiences," wrote product manager Andy Huang in a blog post.

"This medium enables new opportunities for creativity, and we're excited to see what kinds of 360 photos get shared on Facebook."

Just like other marketing-related features offered by Facebook, it is expected that various industries will take advantage of this highly-creative feature.

Facebook also launched video comments today letting users post real-time videos to posts and status updates. The new feature was developed at Facebook's 50th Hackathon in February this year.

Bob Baldwin, one of the company's core developers, worked on video comments and the feature allowing users to attach photos in strings of comments.

Video comments start rolling out today on Android, iOS and desktop versions of the platform, joining other commenting tools like stickers, gifs and emojis.

The introduction of video comments on Facebook gives the company an edge to compete against Snapchat. According to Mary Meeker's 2016 Internet Trends Report, the latter's video consumption outperformed Facebook in the first three months of 2016.
