Police arrested and charged on Saturday two Delaware teens for assaulting a mentally disabled man. Both were charged with assault of a vulnerable adult, offensive touching, and conspiracy. The teens, aged 13 and 14, were released on $2,500 bonds after their arraignment. Authorities refused to release the suspects' names due to their ages.

Both suspects were detained after submitting harassment complaints themselves to authorities, stating that they have been badgered by others after someone posted a video of their attack on the mentally disabled man online. According to authorities, the video posted via social media revealed the personal contact information of the suspects.

Both Newark teenagers went to the police station of Saturday with their parents. In a statement from New Castle Officer Tracey Duffy on Monday, the teens and their parents headed to the police headquarters after receiving several frightening phone calls from those who viewed the video of the attack. Their complaints prompted an investigation on the cause of the threats. This then led authorities to the video showing the actual attack on the mentally disabled man.

In the video, the 26-year-old mentally disabled man was seen to be getting body-slammed to the ground. The victim was also stomped on persistently, as well as repeatedly punched in the head. Authorities deem it possible that the attack on the victim was done on more than one instance. Duffy said that investigators are in the process of determining the actual number of assailants involved, as well as the frequency of the attacks on the mentally disabled man.

In the preliminary report of the investigators, Duffy revealed that the first attack on the 26-year-old could have occurred sometime in July while the latest happened a few weeks ago. The mentally disabled victim was said to have undergone treatment for a non-life-threatening wound. Police believe that the injury may have been from one of the attacks. At present, no further details are provided as the investigation is ongoing.

One of the social media users, Angeliz Marrero from New Castle, shared that she immediately reposted the video in her Instagram account right after viewing it the first time. "I was so mad, but at the same time the first thing I thought was, 'I have to do something about this,'" the 16-year-old Marrero stated.

Less than 24 hours after posting the video of the attack, Marrero's followers grew from 2,000 to 20,000. "It spread so fast, and I'm just so grateful for everybody that's helping me out. Because if it weren't for everybody helping, supporting and everything, this wouldn't even go viral, and that man really deserves justice," Marrero stated.

Authorities have yet to determine the relationship of the 26-year-old mentally disabled man and his attackers. Duffy divulged that the victim was living in the same apartment complex as one of the assailants arrested.
