New App From Seed Helps Chinese Students Learn English

Hello Seed

(Photo : Hello Seed) Seed's new app is called Daka.

For Chinese students who wants to upgrade their proficiency in the English language, there are a handful of options. They can study abroad, but this would cost a lot of money. The demand for English teachers has opened a new market for companies like 51Talk and apps like Liulishuo and Youdao. Now a new tech app from Seed is looking to take this market in a completely different way.

Seed's latest app is called Daka. The app is not about fixing problems with pronunciation and does it give users a set of training materials and lesson plans. Daka uses a completely new approach to teach its users.

Instead of following the normal course of teaching, Daka gives users one exercise per day which is composed of three questions. Each exercise tackles a specific topic. Seed claims that this approach will allow users to discuss topics with their friends, which in turn could increase proficiency.

Seed chief operating officer Zoe Zhou told Tech Node that "young Chinese people have their own unique perspective on a lot of topics. We hope that by helping them practice [speaking English], we can help them express themselves."

Aside from encouraging users to engage in conversations, Daka also gives prompts which are designed to challenge users to think critically and stand by their opinions. Daka was launched a couple of weeks ago and can be paired with a previously released app from Seed, which curates English contents for its users. Seed's strategy is for the first app to provide users with new words and phrases which can be used on the new app.

Interested users can download Daka straight from Seed's official website.
