Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin led Shanghai Greenland Shenhua to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over powerhouse team Jiangsu Suning at the Hongkou Football Stadium in Shanghai on Saturday as the 2016 Chinese Super League season moves forward.

The 30-year-old Guarin, who was acquired by Shanghai Shenhua in January from Italian Serie A squad Inter Milan for a fee of €11 million, netted a brace to spearhead his team during the five-point thriller, SkySports reported.

He found the first equalizer with a penalty kick at the 29th minute after his compatriot, Jiangsu's newly-acquired center forward Roger Martinez, scored the opening goal eighth minutes earlier via a pass from local midfielder Ji Xiang.

Martinez scored again with three minutes before the halftime interval, this time from an assist by Brazilian winger Alex Teixeira, to pull off a double and send head coach Choi Yong-soo's squad up 2-1 at the break, as per Soccerway.

The hosts were not to be denied, though, as former Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins leveled the count once again, 2-2, at almost the hour mark of the contest as he directed midfielder Cao Yunding's pass towards the net of Jiangsu goal tender Gu Chao.

Finally, another pass from Cao provided Guarin's second goal of the evening, which proved to be the game-winner with ten minutes left before full time.

It was the Flower of Shanghai's second consecutive win and third in their last four outings. With the win, Shenhua had overtaken Shanghai SIPG and Hebei China Fortune for third place in the current China top flight table.

Shenhua, SIPG, and Hebei are all tied with 34 points in the standings, but head coach Gregorio Manzano's side occupied the third spot because they are ahead on head-to-head wins against the Massive while the team has a superior goal difference over the Samba Kings.

Meanwhile, Jiangsu was able to hold on for second place in the overall standings, but Shenhua is now only four points behind. It was Suning's third loss in their last five matches, which kept them from cutting the lead of defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande.
