Warner Bros movie Suicide Squad, which is being released across the world this weekend, is facing hurdles in getting approval from the Chinese censor board, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

According to sources, the David Ayer-directed movie is yet to be issued a release date by China Film Group, the distribution company that overlooks the import of all foreign films into the country. China Film Group usually decides on the release date of a foreign film at least two months in advance.

"They think this is not a good film to release in China," a Chinese executive said without elaborating.

Chinese movie fans were expecting that the movie's friendlier PG-13 rating would help it to get the approval of China's main censorship body, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT).

Chinese censorship officials are known for going tough on foreign films that have violence and graphic language. Earlier this year, the much-hyped Hollywood movie Deadpool was banned from release in China due to its violent scenes and graphic languages.

The news that Suicide Squad is mired in censorship problem will come as a huge setback for Warner Bros Studio. The studio, like all other American studios, was counting on the lucrative Chinese market to rake in some profit.

Disney's Zootopia, Legendary Entertainment's Warcraft and Marvel/Disney's Captain America: Civil War have cashed in on millions at the Chinese box office.
