China's Gaming Industry Earned $11 Billion in Sales in First Half of 2016

A new report published during the 2016 ChinaJoy conference revealed that that Chinese gaming industry reached a total sales record of $11 billion within the first six months of the year. The report also revealed that while mobile and console gaming continue to rise, web-based gaming is facing a downward slope.

The report also shows that China registered more than 488 million gamers within the first six months of the year. This represents an increase of 6.7 percent compared to last year. The console platform recorded 138 million users, with a year-to-year increase of 3.1 percent. The web platform recorded 279 million gamers, showing an 8.7 percent year-to-year decrease. The biggest winner was the mobile platform with 405 million gamers, which represents a 10.7 percent year-to-year increase.

With its massive $11 billion revenue, the gaming market recorded a year-to-year increase of 30.1 percent. Domestically-developed online games accounted for $8.58 billion of that earnings. Domestically-developed online games being sold overseas accounted for $380 million.

The client game market accounted for $4.23 billion, recording a 5.2 percent increase on a year-to-year basis. The actual sales of the mobile gaming market stand at $5.64 billion, representing a massive 79.1 percent year-to-year increase. The web gaming market earned $1.06 billion, which represents a decrease of 2.1 percent year-to-year.

According to China Tech News, by the end of June, China had listed 163 companies in the gaming industry. Around 81 percent of those companies are listed on the country's A-share market.
