The latest poster of the upcoming Hollywood sci-fi film "Arrival," which stars Amy Adams, has drawn criticism from Hong Kong citizens for its inaccurate depiction of Victoria Harbour.

The film, which features Adams as an expert linguist tasked with a mission to communicate with aliens, is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 11 and ahead of its release Paramount Pictures released a series of posters to promote the film.

One of the posters shows a massive alien spaceship hovering above Hong Kong's famous Victoria Harbour but the image sparked the ire of Hong Kong netizens who were quick to point out an inaccurate inclusion; Shanghai's Oriental Pearl Tower on the bottom right of the poster, according to the South China Morning Post.

What made waters worse was that the film's tagline read "Why are they here?" The poster has since gone viral, with hashtags like #HongKongIsNotChina and #WhyOrientalPearlTowerHere trending on social media.

Several people took to social media to express their anger over the erroneous image. "Just don't promote your movie in HK [Hong Kong] if you don't respect HKers [Hongkongers]," wrote a user named Allan Chan, according to Variety. "Fire the person in charge of your marketing design," wrote another angry user.

Hong Kong was a British colony up until 1997 and has been in a state of political turmoil over the past few years as a result of China's growing influence and control on the island. In recent months, a clash of ideals has prompted minority groups to call for independence from the mainland.
