Poll Finds More Than 80% of Japan, China Mutually Dislikes Each Other

A recently conducted joint poll between Japan and China revealed that more than 80 percent of the population of both countries has a mutual animosity with each other.

The survey revealed that about 86.6 percent of China dislikes Japan, while 93 percent of the Japanese respondents view China unfavorably.

The Public Opinion on China-Japan Relations 2014 survey was released in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The Japanese non-profit organization Genron NPO and China Daily, sponsored the poll with the aim of revealing both countries insight about each other.

According to analysts, the result of the poll revealed that although both countries dislike each other, the citizens are aware of the issues and tension between them.

Nearly 70 percent of China and 80 percent of japan said "problem and needs to be resolved" and "undesirable and concerned" regarding the worsening situation in the national emotion.

When asked why they disliked Japan, more than 64 percent of the Chinese who participated in the poll chose Japan's purchase of the Diaoyu Islands as the reason for their animosity.

The tension between China and Japan grew when the Japanese government bought the Daioyu island and its surrounding islets, a major blow to China and Taiwan, who are having territorial disputes about the region.

Meanwhile, another 59.6 of the Chinese respondents chose Japan's failure to apologize during its Chinese occupation and lack of regret during the wartime as the reason why they have unfavorable views towards the country.

However, even with the tension between both countries, the poll revealed that more than 50 percent of China and Japan give importance to their bilateral relationship.

Additionally, the survey showed that 60 percent of Japan and half of the Chinese participating in the poll, believe that it's best if both countries will cooperate in solving key issues in Asia.

 The joint poll conducted from July to august had 1,539 Chinese and 1,000 Japanese respondents.
