Algeria's Sonatrach Awards China $420M Refinery Modernization Contract

Algeria' Sonatrach awarded China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC) a $420 million contract to renovate the Sidi R'cine Refinery in Bakari near its capital Algiers, the state energy firm announced on Sunday.

China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) oil rig is seen in China's Bohai Sea.

China Becomes World's Second Largest Oil Refining Country

According to the 2016 China Oil and Gas Industry Development Analysis and Development Report, issued by the China Petroleum Enterprise Association and China Oil and Gas Industry Development Research Center on March 21, China is the world's second largest oil refining country after the United States.

ISIS Militants Attack Iraq's Largest Oil Refinery

On Wednesday, Sunni militants from the notorious ISIS group led an attack on Iraq's largest oil refinery, causing the plant to be shut down. Located just 155 miles north of Baghdad, the refinery is responsible for over a quarter of the nation's domestic oil production.
