There are only a few really high-profile female directors. When Kathryn Bigelow took home the Academy's Best Director award for the film The Hurt Locker, she made a mark in Oscar history for being the first female director to win the award. In fact, female directors in Hollywood are extremely an under-represented minority, which is why when news broke out that Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of 50 Shades of Grey, feels she does not want to make another film again, it is rather disheartening.
