Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs. Apple iPhone 6: Specs, Features and Price Showdown

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus have been launched at a special Apple event in Cupertino, California on Sept. 9 while the Samsung Galaxy Alpha was unveiled at the IFA 2014.

Both handsets will be out in September and those who are choosing between the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy Alpha should check this comparison on specs, features and price.

Both the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy Alpha have 4.7-inch displays.

The Galaxy Alpha, however, has the Super Amoled technology while the iPhone 6 has an LED-backlit IPS LCD.

The Galaxy Alpha has a 720 x 1280 screen resolution with 312 ppi pixel density while the iPhone 6 has a 750 x 1334 screen resolution and 326 ppi pixel density.

The iPhone 6 design is supposedly inspired by the iPad Air look, showcasing the high quality build with its metallic finish. Its glass rounded corners have a sleek look despite it not being a sapphire crystal.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Alpha has a more sophisticated build than previous plastic-covered Samsung handsets. It has a metallic frame with a leather-like material and cross-stitch pattern. The Galaxy Alpha is thinner than the iPhone 6.

The Galaxy Alpha has an octa-core Exynos 5 processor at 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 and quad-core 1.3 Cortex-A7 core. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 has a 64-bit Apple A8 processor, rumored to have 2 GB of RAM. The Galaxy Alpha comes with 2 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy Alpha runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI while the iPhone 6 will run on the new iOS 8.

The Galaxy Alpha has a 32 GB internal storage while Apple provides internal storage options such as 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Both devices do not have expandable storage support.

The Galaxy Alpha sports a 12 megapixel ISOCELL rear camera and a 2.1 megapixel front camera while the iPhone 6 has an 8 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and 1.2 megapixel front camera.

The Galaxy Alpha also supports 4k video recording while the iPhone 6 does not have this capability. Both devices feature fingerprint scanning and NFC technologies.

According to reports, the Galaxy Alpha costs about $136 with contract and $637 without contract.

Meanwhile, the 16 GB iPhone 6 costs $199 with a 2-year contract and $299 and $399 for the 64 GB and 128 GB variants, respectively.
