Apple has hosted the largest launch event in its history.

Unlike iPhone announcements in the past, the latest launch was held at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California where Steve Jobs first revealed the Mac personal computer to the world.

Apple unveiled two new larger iPhones: the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The company also unwrapped its widely-anticipated iWatch.

There have been numerous price predictions and analyses but people expected the most expensive iPhone model so far and that there will be a US$100 premium on new iPhone products.

The iPhone 6 starts at US$199.99 with contract but the rumored release of a 128 GB variant started rumors the device's price will increase.

Based on existing plans, the largest handset can cost up to US$399.99 with contract and it could be the same for Apple.

Both the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus and 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will come with Retina HD displays and 1920 x 1080 and 1334 x 750 screen resolutions, respectively.

The smartphones are thin with the 6 Plus being 7.1 mm thin and the iPhone 6 being 6.8 mm thin. By comparison, the iPhone 5S was 7.6mm thin.

The iPhone 6 has a new Apple 64-bit A8 chip which increases CPU performance by 20 to 25 percent and 50 percent faster graphics.

It has the new iSight 8 MP camera with a true-tone flash and new sensor. It will be out on Sept. 19 in the United States with pre-orders starting Sept. 12.

It's expected to be out in 115 countries before 2014 ends. The iPhone 6 is priced at US$199 with a two year contract while the iPhone 6 will cost US$299 on contract as well.
