The Oklahoma City Thunder is reportedly set to offer backup point guard Cameron Payne to the Sacramento Kings for veteran small forward Rudy Gay.

Oklahoma City has recently acquired wingman Jerami Grant from the Sixers in a trade that sent Ersan Ilyasova to Philadelphia. While the Thunder solved their current issues in wing depth by getting Grant, their front court has suddenly become thinner with Ilyasova's loss.

Thus, rumors have emerged that Oklahoma is targeting Gay, who is reportedly eager to exit Sacramento for a more "stable" club. Chat Sports Net indicated that the Thunder could offer last year's 14th overall pick Payne as part of the trade package for Gay.

Gay will provide Oklahoma an outside shooting big man to create space for main man Russell Westbrook while Payne will give the Kings the point guard reinforcement that they badly need at the moment.

Ty Lawson is the only legitimate point guard in Sacramento's active roster right now with Darren Collison still serving his suspension.

Gay has been in the rumor mill since last season as he was vocal about his unhappiness with his current club, telling reporters that he wants "more stability" in his career at this point and Sacramento is not able to provide him that.

He has also announced that he will not stay with the Kings when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, which means that Sacramento will lose him for nothing if they do not trade him soon.

SB Nation advised that the right time to trade Gay is now as the former Connecticut standout has been playing well lately.

Even though the Kings are losing, Gay is producing excellent personal numbers. He scored 30, 22, and 28 points in his last three games and hauled down a combined 20 rebounds and eight assists.

Gay would be a perfect replacement for Ilyasova. Some analysts even believe that he is an upgrade as he can still score and defend well despite turning 30 years old in August.
