Taiwanese NCAA Division I basketball player Ray Chen is off to a good start for Liberty University. Chen transferred to Liberty this year from NCAA Division II school Belmont Abbey.

Chen was born in Miaoli, a city in northern Taiwan. In an interview, Chen said that he started playing basketball in his neighborhood when he was 5 years old, and when he started playing in school he was the smallest player on his team.

He moved to the US when he was 18 years old to play for Gaston High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, before starring for the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.

In his final year with the Crusaders, Chen earned all-conference third-team honors, leading his team with 16 points and 3.5 assists per game.

Through the first five games with Liberty, the senior guard is averaging 5.0 points in just 11.8 minutes per contest. He is shooting 75% from the field and is a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

Chen put up a season-high 14 points in his first game for Liberty. Then, in a game against Indiana University--currently ranked no. 3 in the AP Top 25--Chen led the Flames in scoring, with 8 points.

During the team's first game a broadcaster coined the term "Chensanity" after the Taiwan native hit a 3-pointer, an allusion to Jeremy Lin--the only Taiwanese-American player in the NBA.

Despite the nickname, Chen is not planning to follow in Lin's footsteps. Chen's biography on the Liberty University men's basketball website says that he is working on his master's degree in sports management and is planning to become a sports agent.
