Blizzard cancelled its next-generation MMO codenamed Project Titan after seven years in development.

Mike Morhaime, co-founder and president of Blizzard, confirmed the game's cancellation Tuesday.

"We didn't find the fun. We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no," said Morhaime.

The game's cancellation came after Blizzard eliminated all mention of the game from the careers page back in August 2013 and suggested it wouldn't pursue the project.

In May 2013, Project Titan went on big changes but a few months later, Blizzard said that was "unlikely" to be the subscription based MMO. The market changed and the game's development could not keep up.

Chris Metzen, senior vice president of story and franchise development from Blizzard, said the company had a difficult time deciding the cancellation of Project Titan.

Their other cancelled projects like Warcraft Adventures and StarCraft Ghost resulted in better-quality work.

The Project Titan cancellation won't hinder Blizzard from creating another MMO in the future.

The American video game developer will continue supporting the 10-year old World of Warcraft.

On the other hand, Blizzard is exploring new, non-MMO genres with games like Hearthstone and the upcoming Heroes of the Storm.

Hearthstone is a big hit with 20 million players to date. Heroes of the Storm wants to capitalize on the success of other MOBA games.
