Developer Hints at Google Launch of Nexus 6, Android L Next Week

Google (GOOG) has been silent on the topic of Nexus and Android, ever since the Google I/O event in June. So far it hasn't said a no word about the release date for Android L or about the new Nexus products coming this year.

However, one Android developer, Paul O'Brien, has some insider knowledge. In a flurry of tweets, the founder of MoDaCo Solutions revealed Google's plans to announce the Nexus 6 and Android L on October 15, just one day before Apple's (AAPL) iPad event.

This makes next week a lot more interesting, now that we have both Apple and Google events. The Google event should run over some of the new features added to Android L between June and October.

The Nexus 6 will be the main attraction of the show as the new phone developed in partnership with Motorola. It will reportedly feature a 5.9-inch display, quad-core processor and 13MP camera, with the same design as the Moto X (2014 edition).

O'Brien claims the Nexus 6 will be priced "Under £450 ($725), but don't expect ultra cheap." This could be a little higher than the previous Nexus 5, given the larger screen and more premium materials on Motorola's design.

The Nexus 9 will come sometime before, perhaps without an event. This would be a bit disappointing as it has been a while since we've seen a proper Nexus tablet worth talking about. HTC will reportedly develop the Nexus 9, but did not discuss the tablet at their event this week, where they launched the Desire EYE.
