Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk finally revealed an electric all-wheel drive version of their Model S sedan Thursday. The new sedan, called the Model S P85D, is targeted at customers that live in snowy terrain.

Musk, who founded PayPal and owns private space company SpaceX, said the "D" in the Model D sedan apparently stands for "Dual motor," a capability that allows a driver to shift power from the car's front to its rear chassis.

As opposed to the standard Model S sedan, the P85D has higher top speeds and increased efficiency. The P85D can accelerate from zero to a whopping 60 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds.

Apart from these already incredible features, Tesla developed new safety options along with autopilot features that make for independent driving.

Starting this month, all electric cars made at the Tesla plant in Fremont will come fully equipped with drivers' aids and long range radar that can navigate extreme weather conditions such as fog and snow.

The P85D also comes with ultrasonic sonar and an automatic cruise control that allows the car to drive itself. According to Karl Brauer, a senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book, these remarkable features will help put Tesla on the map.

Sticker price for the P85D is unknown as Tesla's website is under maintenance.

Brauer confirms the P85D's advanced features and autonomous driving guidance adds more value to the sedan. The features appeal to luxury seeking shoppers concerned about their security when driving in cold weather.

This launch was further amplified by Musk's cryptic announcement via Twitter to his more than one million followers last week saying it's about time to unleash the "D."
