MacBook Air Not Expected at Apple's Event

Following earlier rumors on the 12-inch MacBook Air, new sources from Re/Code have confirmed that the MacBook Air will not be at the event on October 16.

This contradicts an earlier rumor claiming the 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina Display would be announced at the event. Apple is reportedly looking to add another size into the MacBook Air lineup, but we will not see that size until later next year.

The reason behind the delay comes down to Intel's new 14-nanometer Broadwell chips, which are in high-demand, but low yield rate. To keep the MacBook Air in stock for more than a week, Apple will hold off the launch until 2015 when Intel finds it ground.

The 14-nanometer Broadwell chips are vital to the redesign of the MacBook Air. Reports say the new notebook will be thinner than previous versions, come without a fan, have a no-click trackpad and Apple will remove some of the ports on the side.

This is an interesting move by Apple, considering the MacBook Air is still one of thinnest notebooks on the market. The three different size options might contribute to a lower price overall. Apple has been lowering prices on all their OS X models ever since 2012.

Instead of the MacBook Air, Apple's October 16 event should be on the new iPads, the new iMac with Retina Display and potentially something on the Apple TV. The invite tagline "It's been way too long" points to an older product that has not been updated for a while.

Apple will livestream the event at 1pm EDT from their HQ in Cupertino.
