Android Lollipop Coming to HTC, Motorola First

Google Inc. (GOOG) announced the arrival of Android 5.0 Lollipop earlier this week, alongside the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Coincidentally, the two Nexus manufacturers, Motorola and HTC, are also the two smartphone makers bringing Android Lollipop to their own smartphone's first.

The two manufacturers have yet to release an official schedule, but both Motorola and HTC have been extremely proficient when it comes to previous updates, getting onto their flagship devices, compared to other manufacturers in the industry.

Motorola will look to add Android 5.0 Lollipop onto the Moto X (2013 and 2014 Edition), Moto G (2013 and 2014 Edition), Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX and Droid Mini. Although there is no schedule on these updates, it is likely the Moto X will get the update first.

HTC has not revealed any information about updates, but last year HTC Advantage was announced as a way for people in the U.S. to get updates within 90 days. If HTC stays true to their word, it will mean updates on the HTC M8 and HTC M7 by December.

What about the other manufacturers? Samsung has not said anything on Android Lollipop, but we can expect the Galaxy S5, S4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4, Note 3 and a few other devices will get the update within the next six months.

LG has been lax when it comes to quick updates, but the LG G3 might get Android Lollipop early, to keep the momentum for the device. Sony has been even slower when adopting new updates, but the first updates are expected to come to the Xperia Z2 and Z3 next year.

Chinese manufacturers ZTE, Huawei and Xiaomi are normally not interested in big updates. Xiaomi has their own custom version of Android, which they add their own software onto, and both ZTE and Huawei have their own skins and services.
