Christian Bale has been confirmed as the lead actor in the Steve Jobs biopic, and will play the legendary founder of Apple Inc. in the upcoming movie.

Bale was part of a list of actors seeking the part, including Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck and even Leonardo DiCaprio. According to screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who broke the news on Bloomberg TV earlier today, Bale didn't have to audition to get the part.

Speaking on Bloomberg TV, Sorkin said "We needed the best actor on board in a certain age range and that's Chris Bale", he also claimed Bale didn't have to audition to get the part - he simply went to a meeting and the team decided he was the right guy for the job.

This does sound a bit weird when a few of the other actors in contention could play a fine role - Leonardo DiCaprio has shown he can play multiple roles, without the need to fit into a certain style. It might have something to do with the facial identity, Bale does look more like Steve Jobs than DiCaprio.

The Steve Jobs biopic will follow the biography Walter Isaacson wrote in 2011, following the early days of Jobs to the iPhone launch. The biography, while a good overview of Jobs' past 30 years, did not offer anything on his days after the launch of the iPhone and the iPad.

This, for many people, was Steve Jobs' true glory days, where he created a technology empire that would last for decades. Sorkin has not said if he will include new later stage parts in his biopic, or if they will stick to Isaacson's book.

No word on when the Steve Jobs movie will debut - there has already been a Jobs movie, titled Jobs, with Ashton Kutcher in the main role. It got mixed reviews, with many citing the lack of good screenwriting as a major downfall. Jobs has also been portrayed by Noah Wyle in the 1999 TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.
