Google Drive Suite Updated To Material Design

Google is starting to push out Material Design language to all of their Android and Chrome services.

The next update comes to Google Drive, Docs, Slides and Sheets. Google's productivity suite has grown into a prominent source, competing with Microsoft Office and Apple's iWork suite, even if it doesn't make much in the way of revenue.

Google has offered the update to Web users for quite some time, but users are still able to revert back to the old-design. On mobile, however, Google Drive's update will be permanent, and users will not be able to swap between the designs.

The updated design will come to Android Lollipop 5.0 and other variations of Android, including KitKat and Jelly Bean. The design does look better on Lollipop, with Google redesigned interface reflected across all of the platform.

In terms of functionality, Google has added more features for Bluetooth keyboard users. This will allow tablet users to be more productive with Google Drive, including a new "Incoming" feature for better collaboration.

This is the first time Google has offered a staggered launch of updates, instead of simply updating all apps. Material Design is Google's biggest design change since the beginning of Android - so it makes sense that the team would take its time rolling out app updates.

More updates will be coming in the upcoming weeks. Google is expecting this update to last for the full year, or at least until Google I/O comes along in June 2015.
