(Photo : Reuters) Apple's CEO is confident customers will find uses for the Apple Watch.

When it comes to the iPhone or iPad, Apple has kept the price for the gold option the same. But this will change with the Apple Watch, with Cupertino looking at a $5,000 price for the 18-karat gold option.

What makes the gold option so valuable, or at least expensive, is that 18-karat gold, two times stronger than normal gold. This is not the same as the painted gold aluminium on the iPad and iPhone, this is the real deal, and it is expensive to make.

Customers willing to fork out the extra $4,500 for the gold edition will also get a choice between metal and leather bands. The leather option comes with a gold clasp. In terms of software, Apple has not announced any incentive to pick up the gold option, although free subscriptions could be on the cards.

The regular Apple Watch will reportedly retail for $500, half the original analyst estimate. This will come with sapphire crystal glass on the front and stainless steel, in a range of leather and metal bands.

Apple Watch Sport will be the entry level smartwatch, appealing to customers who want more of a fitness wearable than something fashionable. Apple will add anodized aluminum and pair the watch will a range of plastic bands, made to work better with fitness fans.

All three watches are set to launch in Spring 2015, according to an internal report from the manager of Apple's Retail. Apple originally had the goal of 2014 launch, but delayed it due to issues with the software.

Even though the Apple Watch gold edition comes with an insane price tag, real gold versions of the iPhone have went for hundreds of thousands before. If Apple wants to compete with Rolex and other high-end watchmakers, offering an expensive and low-stock option might intrigue people who have that kind of money to spend on a watch.
