In a move to help reverse eight straight quarters of falling revenue, Pizza restaurant chain Pizza Hut is preparing the largest update to its product line since the inception of the pizza service.

The U.S.-based franchise will add more customization to its menu to compete with Dominos Pizza's "create your own" service, where customers are able to add whatever topping they like onto the pizza, alongside different bases and crusts.

Some of these toppings seem rather outlandish, like sliced banana peppers and fresh spinach. Pizza Hut is adding new bases, sauces and crusts to the menu and will continue to expand the selection, making even more choice for the customer.

The 180 by Pizza Hut will not stop at the pizzas as the revamp will add a new logo, uniform, pizza box and potentially a new website, with easier access to make-your-own pizzas and more emphasis on deals and coupons for returning customers.

Building this digital customer base is one of the secrets of Dominos' recent success, offering different deals in regions, alongside bundles of food to make customers buy more for less. Papa Johns, another rival pizza restaurant, has also reported growth in the past few quarters.

Pizza Hut has been sitting on its old recipes and pizzas for too long, without any real change. The company has outlined its plan going forward, with Yum! Brands, the owner, not happy with the current downward trend of the food chain.

The revamp should come in the next few weeks, with more changes planned in 2015 to kick start Pizza Hut. The brand is still one of the faces of pizza and continues to have strong restaurant sales, but has missed out when it comes to online orders and delivery services, when compared to the second and third pizza chains.
