Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak is known for having a neutral head when it comes to Apple, often times criticizing Apple's new products and putting an end to rumors.

One rumor constantly popping up is the famous garage where everything started. According to several accounts, Apple I computers were designed and manufactured inside the garage belonging to Steve Jobs' parents.

However, Wozniak debunks this rumor, claiming most of the manufacturing was done by him at his Hewlett Packard (HP) cubicle in Cupertino. Wozniak claims he had a lot of free time to work on projects at HP and most of the time was working on the Apple I.

The garage was mostly a place for Wozniak and the fellows at Apple to relax and feel at home, alongside some prototyping of different ideas. It allowed the full team to bounce ideas off each other.

Talking to Bloomberg Businessweek, Wozniak had this to say:

"The garage is a bit of a myth. We did no designs there, no breadboarding, no prototyping, no planning of products. We did no manufacturing there. The garage didn't serve much purpose, except it was something for us to feel was our home. We had no money. You have to work out of your home when you have no money."

Wozniak was known as the brains behind the Apple I and Apple II computers, building the internals along with some other early Apple staff. Steve Jobs was known for his salesman attitude, capable of changing Apple from a fun project into a business.

In the early years, Wozniak did not get much stick from Jobs when it came to design. Wozniak claims Jobs had minimal input - apart from in a few areas where he thought something needed to be added to changed.

In the later years of the company, Jobs was known for having the most direct impact on a product, working with Jony Ive and other executives at Apple to make sure everything fit.

Walter Isaacson's biography on Steve Jobs goes over the transition from a project to a company, but millions of Jobs fans still want to hear the last ten years at Apple, not documented heavily in the biography.
