(Photo : LeTV) Now that China is allowing almost any company to make a car, Internet video portal LeTV has announced they will be developing an electric car.

China has removed restrictions for companies that want to manufacturing cars. Xiaomi is reportedly interested in a partnership with Tesla Motors, and now video portal LeTV has confirmed it will be creating an electric car.

The car, named the SEE (Super Electric Eco-system),  will reportedly work on the LeTV ecosystem. The company will be investing heavily on R&D for the electric car. Not much has actually been revealed about the car, other than LeTV CEO Jia Yueting wanting to clean the air. The car may feature an air filtration system inside, to clean the air from outside.

Smog is a real issue in China's main cities, leading to new startups working purely on air filtration technology. Electric cars are also highly regarded in the country, due to the 0 emissions. Yueting is not only interested in electric cars. As the company expands from a simple video portal, LeTV is pushing into hardware - starting with a smart TV.

In the announcement on Weibo, Yueting writes "We look to overtake the traditional European, American, Japanese and Korean giants of the industry, eventually addressing urban smog and traffic problems and enabling everyone on earth to drive a Super Car and breathe clean air."

Strong words for a startup, but the electric car market is only starting to grow. Now would be the perfect time for a company in China to really rip open the market with an economy car to rival Tesla's Model 3 coming in 2017.

LeTV has not announced a date, price or model for the electric car. It is clear while the announcement will spark some interest, it is a few years before any car will be available to purchase.
