UFO Enthusiast Mistake ISS Experimental Communication System for Alien Contact Attempts

Three more astronauts now at the ISS

UFO enthusiasts often see blinking lights in the atmosphere as a sign of attempts by non-Earthlings to make a contact with our planet. They again made that assumption when a live feed from the International Space Station (ISS) on December 5 showed a flashing red light.

They immediately shared it on YouTube and this renewed discussions on life outside Earth.

But not all space observers are UFO nuts. Some looked for other explanations and came up with the theory that the lights could be the ISS crew toying with their laser pointers, a nearby satellite is passing by or it is an artificial star caused by the firing of a laser from the Earth to the sky, reports Bio & Tech Insights.

It is actually the new OPALS system, an experimental communication project between the ground and ISS, disclosed Matthew Abramason, ISS mission manager.

He explained that four lasers from the ground are beamed to the ISS, which are easily picked up by the OPALS beacon on the ISS at night but difficult to do so during daytime. To address this concern, Abramason said the ISS team is using new software changes to boost daytime pick up capabilities of the OPALS.

But UFO conspiracy theorists believe otherwise. They think Abramason is just covering up what they perceive as reality that aliens are already on Earth.

In the past few weeks, these UFO believers have been working overtime telling the world of their recent sightings such as a doll's head and a thigh bone on Mars. Their latest discovery is alleged sightings of a dark colored object, shaped like a balloon hovering near a New York City landmark, the Statue of Liberty.

Non-UFO believers, however, say it is just a sun-powered balloon or a government drone.
