Ohio Police shot to death an armed man who unsuccessfully attempted to purchase a plane ticket at the Port Columbus International Airport on Wednesday using fake identification documents.

Before the incident, the man tried to buy a ticket but showed a woman's ID card which was rejected by the airline. He tried using another ID, but he was again turned down, reports LA Times.

The airline then informed the police about the man whom the cops approached as he walked towards a vehicle illegally parked for about 10 minutes.

The man was initially cooperative, but he suddenly pulled out a knife and lunged at the officer which prompted the cop to shot the knife wielder who fell to the ground, said Sgt. Rich Weiner, spokesman of Columbus Police.

The man stood up and walked toward the officer, causing the second cop to fire multiple shots that struck the suspect, who was eventually declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

A search of the vehicle yield several more knives and other items that alarmed the police force. The cops called for assistance from a bomb squad as a precautionary measure.

The confrontation did not result to harm to anyone else. Flights at the airport continue to operate normally, said David Whitaker, vice president of business development and communications of the airport.

But the airport operator closed the drop-off area on Wednesday afternoon even if the active threat was no longer there. Passengers were told to use instead the lower-level arrival area of the gateway.
