Armed Robbery Suspects in Florida Fall

Scores of police combed through neighborhoods in Polk County in Florida, looking for armed robbery suspects that also figured in a double homicide and high-speed chase in less than 24 hours.

SWAT teams were also deployed in the search for four suspects who are now in police custody, the Polk County sheriff's office said on Friday morning. A daughter and a mother were found dead in a home invaded by a suspect. The sheriff said the victims were brutally murdered.

The crime spree started at around 5:45 in the afternoon on Thursday in Auburndale, Florida when four suspects took part in what the sheriff called a well-planned robbery of a pawnshop.

The getaway car caught the attention of police who then followed it. The suspects opened fire at the police from their open windows, reports said. The vehicle tagged in the pursuit slammed into Hanes City's Chandler Ridge area, where schools were closed.

Authorities hopped from door to door in their hunt on Friday morning, warning locals to shut their doors. They escorted people who had to go to work to their vehicles.

While police captured one suspect, the other three fled the neighborhood.

A tip from a resident pointed police in the direction of a second suspect. As authorities swooped down on the suspect's home, a vehicle emerged from the garage charging right at them. The car stopped after officers fired shots. They let loose police dogs that zeroed in on a suspect who was hurt by gunfire.

When police went inside the home, they found the bodies of two adults, which turned out to be a daughter and her other, who were apparently both murdered.

On Friday morning, the sheriff's office announced the arrest of the third and fourth suspects. The last perpetrator, who was arrested without incident, was reportedly hiding in a neighborhood shed. The sheriff's office said only one suspect face murder charges.
